The Academy of St Martin in the Fields is a world-renowned chamber orchestra founded in 1958 by Sir Neville Marriner and currently led by Music Director Joshua Bell. The ensemble is made up of the principal players of the orchestra and is well known for its extensive touring commitments, regularly performing in Europe and North America. In 1967, the Chamber Ensemble was created to perform larger chamber works with players who regularly performed together. The ensemble performs in various configurations, including string quintets to octets and the Academy Wind Ensemble, which makes its US debut in the 2021–22 season with pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips. With over thirty CDs released through recording contracts with Philips Classics, Hyperion, and Chandos, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble is a celebrated ensemble in the classical music world. Simon Crawford-Phillips is a versatile musician who has made a name for himself as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. He has recently made conducting debuts with several renowned orchestras, including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra, and was appointed chief conductor and artistic advisor of the Våsterås Sinfonietta, a position he will hold through 2023.
