Down Time
Down Time is an indie rock band based in LA, with a wide range of material that spans from mellow bedroom ballads to intricate psychedelic grooves. Their front woman, Alyssa Maunders, is the heart and soul of the band, weaving imaginative and soulful lyrics that touch on the complexities of the human spirit. Their debut album, Hurts Being Alive, was produced by Denver's own Pat Riley and Alaina Moore of Tennis, and released just before the pandemic hit, forcing them to cancel their West Coast tour.
Determined to keep creating music despite the circumstances, Down Time retreated to a remote house in Pagosa Springs, CO, and recorded their latest album, Spirit, from start to finish in a small room with blankets stapled to the walls. The album features a mix of songs that capture the flame of loss and the solitude of a quiet meadow, all held together by the solid grooves of David B. Weaver (drums/bass) and melodic flourishes of Justin Camilli (guitar/keys). Down Time's music is a refreshing departure from the laptop-pop that dominates the music industry, and they're succeeding in keeping the band together despite the challenges of the pandemic.
