Liz Simmons
Liz, born in San Francisco to a family of musicians, spent her early years traveling across North America in a sky blue VW bus. Her parents played gigs in local pubs in California, Oregon, and Ketchikan, Alaska, where traditional songs were the lullabies and rock and roll and New Orleans brass music were the daily soundtrack.
After settling in rural New Hampshire, Liz received classical musical training, but she soon returned to her love for folk music and its intersections with contemporary sounds. Liz went on to study American vernacular music of the 1920s and 30s at Goddard College, where she received a BA in 2005.
Together with her husband Flynn Cohen, Liz founded Annalivia and performed with Long Time Courting, Hannah Sanders, EVA, Livingston Taylor, Tom Chapin, and Melanie. In 2015, Low Lily was formed with their friend and frequent collaborator Lissa Schneckenburger, and the band has since created a unique sound that has captured audiences in North America and the UK. The band has received two #1 songs on international folk radio and two Independent Music Award wins. Currently based in Brattleboro, Vermont, Liz continues to explore the depths of traditional music through Low Lily and her various musical collaborations.
