Michael Alpert

Michael Alpert, a renowned Yiddish culture bearer, has been at the forefront of the Yiddish music and dance revival since its inception in the late 70s. His contributions to the revitalization of Yiddish culture are widely recognized, having worked with notable bands such as Kapelye, Brave Old World, and Itzhak Perlman. In 2015, he was awarded the National Heritage Award for his outstanding achievements in promoting and preserving Yiddish culture.
Recently, Michael has teamed up with celebrated Latvian singer Sasha Lurje and accomplished violinist, composer, and arranger Craig Judelman to form a new trio. The trio was born out of their shared passion for klezmer music, and after teaching and performing together at various workshops and festivals around the world, they launched their new project in 2020. Sadly, they only managed to play two concerts before the Covid pandemic forced them to pause their live performances.
Now, the trio is embarking on a rare west coast tour to raise funds and show solidarity with their friends and loved ones affected by the ongoing conflicts of war. Michael, Sasha, and Craig are excited to bring their unique blend of traditional and contemporary klezmer music to audiences on the west coast and share their love for Yiddish culture.
