Ruckus

Ruckus is a unique baroque band based in New York City that blends the creativity and virtuosity of North American early music with the raw energy of American roots music. Comprised of a continuo group, including guitar, keyboard, cello, bassoon, and bass, and other members on violin, flute, and oboe, Ruckus's sound is one of "rough-edged intensity" (New Yorker). In 2022, they made their residency debut at The Ojai Festival, where they were described as "the world’s only period-instrument rock band" (San Francisco Classical Voice) and their performances were met with widespread acclaim. Their debut album, Fly the Coop, with flutist Emi Ferguson, was Billboard’s #2 Classical album and their live performances were described as "a fizzing, daring display of personality and imagination" (New York Times). Ruckus's upcoming projects include a collaboration with pioneering artist Roscoe Mitchell, a recital with Rachell Ellen Wong and Emi Ferguson, and their multi-project exploration of the history of American music.
