Oregon Shakespeare Festival Presents Where We Belong

OSF's production of "Where We Belong" is a powerful and deeply personal one-woman show written and performed by Madeline Sayet, directed by Mei Ann Teo. The play is based on Sayet's own experiences as an Indigenous person named after Jeets Bodernasha (Flying Bird) the last fluent speaker of Mohegan language. Through her journey as a theater artist and researcher, Sayet explores the impact of imperialism on the Indigenous community and the devastating consequences of language loss. Sayet brings her own life story to the stage, weaving together memories, family history, and cultural teachings to create a moving and enlightening portrayal of the struggles and triumphs of Indigenous people. As an indigenous woman, Madeline Sayet's work is deeply rooted in the stories of her people and their struggles for self-determination and cultural preservation. Her performances are an invitation to explore the complexities of identity, the importance of community, and the resilience of the human spirit. Under the direction of Mei Ann Teo, this production promises to be a thought-provoking and deeply moving theatrical experience that will resonate with audiences of all backgrounds. The play tells a story of a young woman's journey to reconnect with her heritage, and provides a window into the beauty and challenges of Indigenous culture. This one-woman show is a must-see for anyone interested in understanding the experiences of Indigenous people and the ongoing fight for recognition and rights. In recognition of the Indigenous community, complimentary tickets are being offered throughout the show's run for those who self-identify as part of the community. To take advantage of this offer, please reach out to the Box Office.

OSF Thomas Theater

The Thomas Theatre was born out of the tradition of the Black Swan—OSF’s intimate and greatly loved third theatre venue that closed its doors to performances at the end of the 2001 season. After 25 years, the need for a more flexible performance space became overwhelming. In the Thomas Theatre, as in the Black Swan, OSF continues its commitment to exploring different styles of theatre that create a provocative dialogue with the classic repertory produced in the Allen Elizabethan and Angus Bowmer Theatres.
